The Firkin Alehouse

The Firkin Alehouse can be found at 21 Cheriton Place. From 1929 to 1975 the building was a poulterer, fishmonger and game dealer called John Dory. It then became West End Fruiterers, and then Roots & Fruits. One Foot In The Grape occupied it just before, during and a short while after the pandemic. The Firkin Alehouse moved in – from just across the road – on December 19, 2022.

The Firkin Alehouse micropub has undergone a major transformation to make it the best venue in Folkestone to meet up with a few friends to enjoy a pint of real ale from the cask. The Firkin Alehouse is owned and run by Neil King.

The Firkin Alehouse, like all micropubs offers a warm friendly environment without the interruptions of music, TV, mobile phones, and unruly children. The Firkin Alehouse doesn’t just serve ale – local ciders and wine are also available, as are soft drinks.

CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year 2014

The Ashford, Folkestone and Romney Marsh Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) named The Firkin Alehouse as its 2014 Pub of the Year.

Micropub Association

The Micropub Association is a membership organisation committed to promoting and celebrating all that is great with the concept of the micropub. The Micropub Association is a platform for the new and emerging micropubs to tell the beer-drinking community about themselves.

Micropub Philosophy

The philosophy behind a micropub is the rejection of all that the big chains tell us that we want. There will, therefore, be no television, no fruit machines, no jukebox, no food, no spirits and no lager. The emphasis will be on good beer from microbreweries (and house wines) and conversation. The beer will be served straight from the cask.
